All you needed to learn were clerical skills and you are all
set. You do not even have to be a graduate of a four-year
course to be able to qualify as one. However, these days a
secretary is no longer just assigned to do clerical works or
administrative tasks assigned by their bosses. They are
assigned to do much more.
Everybody should pass through training especially before
they embark on a new job or if the employee decide to take on a
new assignment that is different from what he or she had
before. This will ensure that the new employees will be able to
do their jobs well. The employers will be assured that their
people will be able to do the tasks efficiently and
effectively.
As with the case of a legal secretary, wherein the person is
expected to do clerical works such as answering the telephone,
filing, setting-up meetings, typing of different kinds of
documents and so many others. The reason why most lawyers want
their secretaries to undergo through legal secretary training
is because even the simplest of legal document that they have
to type have specialized formats. Some are even assigned to
read legal journals and assist in the legal research leg
work.
Thus, with the legal secretary training, the secretary knows
what the expected output is going to be. It is understandable
that lawyers do not have time or the patience to explain what
the job is. Therefore, it would not be hard for that person to
take down notes and she will be able to understand legal terms
which the boss will throw at her all the time.
